Bagan

Entrance fee for foreigners, 10 dollar. For these ten you can stay here until your visa expire. If you now would fancy that. Bagan is a relaxed place to hang. It dosen’t happen much and the citizen’s of Bagan seem quite happy about that.

Bagan especially from air, or from a good viewpoint is really beautiful with all it’s temples and pagodas. It’s a massive and quite flat area full of all this crazy stuff.

The temples themselves, especially the bigger and famous ones aren’t that romantic longer, though outside most of the places there will be a lot souvenirshops. People and kids trying to sell you things you don’t want, paintings is one, everyone looking almost the same. The touts will approach you with questions like where do you come from and so on.. and follow up by trying to sell you something, and very commonly, those damn paintings.

This is indeed a little of a hassle and can make the most happy one in a bad mood after several visitings. Bikes are for rent, 1000 kyat in Nyaung U, and more expensive ones you’ll find in Old and New Bagan. Guesthouses usually have some spare ones to lend.

Pick-up buses ply the road between Nyaung U, Old Bagan 200 kyat and New Bagan 500 kyat. They’ll start from outside the market in Nyaung U and continue down to New Bagan. The whole journey takes about 30 minutes. Easiest is just wave one down, and they will stop and pick you up.

Hiring a horse cart is another way the get around, and a quite good one if you don’t feel like searching for the places yourself or bike through the whole desert on your own. A horsecart might be something like half day 5000 kyat, whole day 10,000 kyat.

Remember it can be very hot in Bagan, especially during a hot day, if you tend to bike around yourself, bring plenty of water and a hat.

By writing time, it was not legible for foreigners to rent motorbikes, otherwise, this might actually be the best option.

If someone would rent to you anyway, make sure they don’t get in problem by doing that.
