What about Easter..

Easter is not a big celebration in Singapore. There are some candy eggs to buy in the malls, but not much more than that.

We, me and some Singaporean friends didn’t celebrate it at all. I told them about the Swedish tradition, how we eat dinner and have a lot of food on the table and usually invite family and friends. Buying a lot of candy, especially from the pick and mix counter. Even the supermarkets are competing with each other who could cut down the kilo price with another 5-10 Swedish crones.

And of course, it’s of long tradition to give away Easter Eggs, full of candy. Pick and Mix is the common thing, but you can particularly put in anything you want. It’s all up to your own imagination. Though the shops will do the outmost to find new creations to fill the eggs with.

The dinner part take place on Saturday, after Good Friday, which in Sweden, especially for Christians used to be a very veery long Friday. Believe me, I remember when I was a kid. It was a very long day and soo boring. Nowadays it’s different.

In Sweden, easter includes a lot of pottering, like painting eggs, love that! especially it’s popular between kids.  Yellow will be a colour hard to avoid during this episode. As well chickens, roosters, feathers and all that kind of stuff. I went to Ikea here to check if I could get some inspiration, but it wasn’t much going on there either and I couldn’t really find any Easter things to buy. We almost had the idea of painting some eggs, but we never got that far. Probably lazy as we were to go out and buy eggs and colour:p Maybe next time..:)

Though Easter is big in Sweden I found it hard to almost notice it at all in Singapore.

Cheers,
